The UCL Centre for Holocaust Education applaud Prime Minister Teresa May for announcing today that the UK government will be adopting an international definition of antisemitism as part of efforts to tackle hatred towards Jews.
This decision highlights the serious and escalating problem of antisemitism in this country and will be a tool to recognise and respond to antisemtism, especially when it is deliberately hidden within other discourses.
Our 2016 student research shows that many students do not know the term, and as a result we have developed an intense CPD programme that helps teachers and students develop their knowledge of its roots and manifestations. Challenging antisemitism in schools and university campuses is an imperative for all of us.
