The ways in which we represent the past say a great deal about ourselves. In this lesson, students are charged with the task of telling the story of Jewish ‘resistance’ during the Holocaust.
Building on the foundations of ‘Why didn’t the Jews Fight Back?’ students investigate the myriad ways in which a cross-section of individuals responded to the genocide and consider what this reveals about ‘resistance’. They must then choose which stories they will select for their own representation, ever mindful of the consequences this will have for understanding and meaning.
Please note, this material is in the process of being redesigned and will be supplemented by further resources, detailed lesson plan and pedagogical guidance. In the meantime, please do feel free to use these case studies as modelled in the CPD workshop on resistance.
