Introduction

It is difficult to know how to begin to approach the history of the Holocaust with students. This lesson does so through a seemingly unrelated, ‘ordinary’ object.

In so doing, students are introduced to the absorbing story of an Englishman, his Dutch wife, and their young son. As students learn more about the Greenman family, they both develop historical knowledge and deepen their disciplinary understanding of what it is to ‘do history’.
